I heard that I am now number 8 on the allotment list and have moved up 5 in the last six months. So do I take up the grass in front of the greenhouse now and let the frost get to the ground so it is ready to be planted in the spring, or do I wait and see if I get an allotment at the start of next year.
What should I do?

How is your allotment doing?

Pro We've under-attended it, so it's suffered. We really will get on top of it soon though...

I guess with your being unwell and everything. Hope you get it sorted, or at least get some black polythene to cover it with over winter. That way I do not think you will get as many weeds.

That is neat, allotments have become so popular all over now that there are long lists of men and women waiting eagerly, you have done well you will soon be in there now and will meet a new community.xx

I have been on the list for four maybe five years. Earlier in the year they told me there were over 50 people on it. It seems they have now had to close it as it is going to take so long for people to get one.
I asked about getting more and they said no money.

Pro Well now you're so close to getting it, seems a shame to lose it, but you have got a large area in front of the greenhouse that would make a lovely plot for veg and you'd be on site so to speak instead of having to go off to the allotment however often you feel the need or necessity to go in all weathers... And, you'd have the pleasure of seeing your vegetables growing daily, and tackling bugs and viruses quickly if they appear...it could be another couple of years before you actually get one so you could try your own garden one first then if it works better for you...let somebody in greater need have the allotment... GBHs...XXX

Good reasons. The only down side with my garden is that it faces North and in the winter gets no sun at all. The sun arrives in that part of the garden in April and I think has gone already now.

Pro Well, nothing much grows in the winter in any case...LOL...and you could cover it with a sheeting to keep the ground from freezing hard...the cold does actually kill bugs and things in the ground as well I think... GBHs...XXX

Just dig up the lawn. All that unplanted space! Go on fill it with plants. It looks emptier than the moon!
